Community Development
The Soldiers Grove Community Development Corporation has a two-pronged mission:
- Promotion of Local Businesses
- Promotion of Tourism
-
Promotion of Local Businesses
- The CDC uses a revolving loan fund to issue loan to existing and start-up Soldiers Grove businesses. Any business located within the boundaries of the Village may apply for such a loan. The interested business owner is asked to attend a CDC meeting and provide information about the intended use of the loan, as well as to obtain details regarding the loan application process. As an alternate, the CDC president may be contacted for information. In addition to issuing loans for the benefit of local businesses, the CDC undertakes a variety of activities to support local businesses. Examples are the funding, design and erection of the village sign on Highway 61 and the flower baskets in Solar Town and in the park.
Promotion of Tourism
The CDC believes that significant economic development in Soldiers Grove, Crawford County, and the Kickapoo Valley will stem from tourism. Therefore, the second area of CDC activity focuses on the promotion of tourism. The CDC identifies and selects tourism advertising opportunities, helps sponsor tourism organizations and events, and maintains the Village website. The CDC works with other tourism-focused organizations such as the Crawford County Tourism Council and Driftless Wisconsin to bring a share of area tourism dollars to Soldiers Grove, benefiting the Village’s businesses and residents.
